'Alae 'Ula - The Hawaiian Common Moorhen

The Hawaiian common moorhen is an endangered waterbird native to Hawaii. In Hawaiian it is known as the `alae `ula (“burnt forehead” - for its prominent red frontal shield), revered in mythology as the keeper of fire. Here, an 'alae 'ula chick chases after its parent.
